The MPD218 also features an expanded control set of six knobs across three banks, compared to a single knob on the previous MPD18 model. This lets you maximize your sound and gives you more control over effects.
MIDI information is sent via the plug-and-play USB interface for use on Mac or PC, so you don't need to install any drivers. The USB connection powers the MPD218, so the included USB cable is all you need.

Alongside the improved functionality, iOS compatibility was added using the Camera Connection Kit (sold separately), and MPC Beats, AIR Drum Synth 500, Ableton Live Lite, and Software Preset Editor were added as free software.
