Description

Anyone who's worked with an original SQ-6 knows what that console is worth: 24 channels at 96kHz, rugged, reliable, easy to slot into any rig. The SQ-6+ takes that as its starting point and adds a completely redesigned 9" interface, four extra dLive-grade RackUltra FX engines, and extended DEEP processing power that was previously exclusive to larger Allen & Heath systems. The Allen & Heath SQ-6+ is therefore no ordinary revision, but a console with a 96kHz XCVI FPGA core, 12 FX engines and 24 local mic preamps that scales seamlessly from club install to serious touring rig.

The most striking difference from the SQ-6 is in the FX section. Alongside the 8 RackExtra FX engines (classic reverbs, delays, modulators), there are now 4 RackUltra FX engines on board, each with its own stereo sends and returns. Developed for the dLive line and proven on international tours, these engines run premium reverbs, vocal tuning, pitch processors, distortion and saturation that were previously unavailable in this format. The DEEP processing has also been upgraded: CompStortion, Source Expander and Dual Threshold Expander, formerly exclusive to dLive and Avantis, are now standard on the SQ-6+. On top of that, the 9" touchscreen is bigger and faster, the GUI has been fully reworked in a dark theme, and you get 16 assignable softkeys plus 4 SoftRotaries for instant access to the functions you use most.

Key features

  • 96kHz XCVI FPGA core with under 0.7 ms latency: the same mix architecture as the dLive line, in a 24-fader format.
  • 4 RackUltra FX engines (dLive-grade) plus 8 RackExtra FX engines, each with its own stereo send/return: 12 FX engines in total, all latency-free.
  • 9" touchscreen with reworked dark GUI, drag-and-drop layout, per-strip color coding and Chromatic channel metering down to -72 dBu.
  • 16 softkeys plus 4 SoftRotaries: more direct control over frequently used functions than the SQ-5+, for a faster workflow in demanding shows.
  • Latest-generation DEEP processing: latency-free analog emulations on every channel at once, including CompStortion, Source Expander and Dual Threshold Expander.
  • 128x128 SLink port for the full Everything I/O ecosystem, plus an I/O expansion slot for Dante, MADI or Waves cards.
  • 32x32 USB audio interface at 96kHz: multitrack recording, backing-track playback, livestreaming and virtual soundcheck without an external DAW.

Technical specifications

  • Mic/line inputs: 24x XLR balanced (gain up to +60 dB in 1 dB steps, pad -20 dB, +48V phantom)
  • Aux inputs: 4x 1/4" TRS (2 stereo pairs, half-normalled) + 1x 3.5mm TRS
  • Outputs: 14x XLR balanced + 2x 1/4" TRS balanced
  • FX engines: 8x RackExtra + 4x RackUltra (each with stereo send and return)
  • EQ parameters: 4-band (±15 dB, 20 Hz - 20 kHz; HF and LF switchable shelf/bell)
  • Audio delay: adjustable up to 682 ms
  • I/O expansion slot: compatible with Dante, MADI, Waves and SLink option cards
  • Dimensions: 63.8 x 51.6 x 19.8 cm
  • Weight: 15.2 kg

Pro Tip: The SQ-6+ and SQ-7+ are the only models in the SQ+ series with SoftRotaries: four assignable encoders you can map directly to gain, send levels or other parameters. If you switch layers often, it's worth setting these to whatever you'd otherwise keep reaching for the touchscreen for. Saves noticeable time during a busy soundcheck.

FAQ

What does the SQ-6+ have that the original SQ-6 didn't?

Four dLive-grade RackUltra FX engines (the original SQ-6 had only RackExtra), a larger 9" touchscreen with a fully reworked dark GUI, expanded DEEP processing with add-ons formerly exclusive to dLive and Avantis, and 16 softkeys plus 4 SoftRotaries instead of 8 softkeys with no rotaries.

What's the difference between RackExtra and RackUltra FX?

RackExtra is Allen & Heath's classic FX library, with emulations of legendary reverbs, delays and modulators. RackUltra FX was developed for the dLive line and goes further: studio-grade premium reverbs, vocal tuning, pitch processors, distortion and saturation. On the SQ-6+ both suites run at once: 8 RackExtra plus 4 RackUltra engines.

Can I combine the SQ-6+ with existing Allen & Heath stageboxes?

Yes. The 128x128 SLink port is compatible with the full Everything I/O line, including the AR2412, AR84 and AB168. These run at 96kHz and connect seamlessly via SLink.

Is the SQ+4You app included, and how does it work?

Yes, SQ+4You is a free app that lets up to eight performers adjust their own monitor mix via Android or iOS. The app talks directly to the SQ-6+ over the network, so you as engineer can stay focused on the FOH mix.

Twenty-four channels, twelve FX engines and an interface that gets out of your way so you can mix: the Allen & Heath SQ-6+ is ready for any production. Order now at Pro Gear and get the SQ-6+ into your rig as soon as possible.
