Description
The sE Electronics V7X is a dynamic instrument microphone built from the ground up to be superclean, fast and unshakeable, whether it's hanging in front of a loud amp or over a snare. You hear what's really happening, without half the stage bleeding in.
The difference is the DMC7X capsule with aluminum voice coil. It's lighter than copper, so the diaphragm reacts faster to transients: a snare hit or a struck chord stays sharp instead of smeared. The supercardioid pattern keeps the rest of the stage out of your channel, which on a tight stage means more gain before feedback. And with a zinc alloy housing, a spring-steel grille and an internal shock mount, it survives the flight case as well as the gig itself.
Key features
- Supercardioid pickup: less bleed from hi-hat, wedges and the crowd in your channel
- Aluminum coil reacts faster, for tight transients on snare, toms and guitar cabs
- Handles high SPL without distorting, even right up against the speaker cone
- Internal shock mount absorbs stand rattle and stage vibration
- Spring-steel grille and metal body: it takes a fall and stands right back up
- Sounds usable right away, so you spend less time on EQ per channel
- No phantom power needed, any standard mic input will do

Pro Tip On a guitar cab, don't aim it straight at the dust cap, but a couple of inches toward the edge: you take out the harshness without touching the EQ. On snare, aim the rear, about 125 degrees off-axis, at the hi-hat, since that's where the supercardioid pattern digs its deepest null.

FAQ
Can I also use the V7X for vocals?
You can, but it's voiced for instruments. For vocals, go with the V7 instead, which has a presence lift that brings voices forward.
Does it need phantom power?
No. It's a dynamic microphone, so any standard mic input will do. If phantom power is on anyway, it won't damage the mic.
What will I notice compared to a classic instrument mic?
Mostly on top: the V7X sounds more open and less muffled in the upper midrange, so you have to correct less before you land on something usable.
