Chauvet DJ DMX3F5M 3-pin to 5-pin DMX Adapter
Delivery 2-3 Working days
Description
The DMX3F5M is a roughly 15 cm (6") turnaround cable with an XLR 3-pin female on one end and an XLR 5-pin male on the other. Chauvet DJ builds it specifically for lighting control: 24 AWG conductors, solid shielding and a 117 ohm impedance, so your DMX512 signal stays clean instead of flickering through a cheap audio XLR. The short length keeps your cable run tight and barely counts towards the total length of your DMX line.
Key features
- Connects a 3-pin DMX line straight to a fixture or controller with a 5-pin input
- Built for DMX, not audio: correct impedance and shielding against interference
- Only 15 cm long, so no extra cable tangle behind your fixtures
- Ready in seconds: plug it in and the line carries on
- Saves you a second set of 5-pin cables when your gear is mixed
- Fits in any cable case, or even your back pocket

Ideal for
- Lighting techs running mixed 3-pin and 5-pin gear in one rig

- Rental companies and event techs, as a permanent spare in the cable case
- Theatres and venues connecting a 3-pin controller to a 5-pin installation
Pro Tip Keep the reverse version (5-pin female to 3-pin male) right next to it so you can switch in either direction and never get stuck on site. And terminate your line with a DMX terminator, especially on longer runs: that cures more flickering fixtures than any adapter will.

FAQ
Will I lose signal quality with this adapter?
No. The cable has the correct 117 ohm impedance and is shielded, so the DMX signal passes straight through. The extra 15 cm is negligible.
Can I just use a regular XLR audio cable instead?
Often it works, but not reliably. Audio cable has a different impedance and can cause reflections and flicker, especially on longer lines or with many fixtures. For DMX, use a proper DMX cable like this one.
Does this adapter work the other way round too?
No. The DMX3F5M goes from a 3-pin line to a 5-pin input. For the reverse, from a 5-pin line to a 3-pin fixture, you need the counterpart with 5-pin female and 3-pin male.
What happens to pins 4 and 5?
They stay unused. Standard DMX512 only uses pins 1, 2 and 3; pins 4 and 5 are reserved for a second data link that almost no fixture uses.
Small cable, big difference when it matters. Order now at Pro Gear and get that 5-pin fixture on your line tonight.
