Master/slave lets you link units without an extra controller, but true pixel mapping across multiple bars needs DMX software that supports it, such as ChamSys. The available library makes this a lot easier.
Does the bar work without a DMX controller?
Yes. In auto mode it runs built-in effects and macros standalone, and in sound-activation mode it reacts to music. Handy for simple setups, but individual pixel control requires a DMX network.
