With the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1, Pioneer DJ ventures into a whole new type of DJ controller, built specifically for DJs who love to scratch. It bears a strong resemblance to familiar battle setups (a central 2-channel mixer flanked by 2 turntables rotated a quarter turn).
Thanks to the reworked layout of all the controls, you get plenty of room to show off your turntablism skills. The pitch faders are 60 mm long — longer than on the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SB3 — for even more precise control. By placing them at the top of the decks and moving the performance pads to the mixer section, you can now combine effects, trigger samples, and scratch your tracks, all within easy reach. Another thing you'll notice right away is the large jog wheels the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 inherited from the Pioneer DJ DDJ SR2 — because bigger really is better. They've also added a Lever FX to the mixer section of the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1: push the lever down and hold it to trigger effects in Serato DJ Lite or Serato DJ Pro, or push it up to lock your effects in. With the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1, you can control up to 4 tracks almost simultaneously.
Groundbreaking new features in the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1
One of the most striking new features is Tracking Scratch. This function quietly pulls the music back to the set cue point whenever you move the jogs backward or lift your hand off them, so you no longer have to close the fader or hunt for the exact point to start scratching again. You activate it simply by selecting Tracking Scratch Pad mode and pressing one of the performance pads to choose your pattern — then you're ready to scratch. The new layout of the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 gives you complete freedom to try out different mixing techniques and take part in mix and scratch battles. A handy feature here is the Tracking Scratch function, which lets you automatically return to a cue point when you use the jog wheel to scratch, so you don't have to hunt for the start point yourself or rely on the crossfader. You can also use the performance pads to load samples from the Serato Scratch Bank — a feature that used to be exclusive to Serato DJ Pro! Finally, you can connect a microphone to the DJ controller via a 1/4" jack cable. The mic signal automatically mixes with your master signal, which is great if you want to livestream your set.
Serato DJ Lite and Serato DJ Pro downloads for the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1
You can get started right away by downloading Serato DJ Lite for free from the Serato DJ website. After installation, all you need to do is connect the USB cable between your laptop and the controller, and you can start! Control every function in the software via the faders, knobs and jog wheels on the controller, and create cool scratch effects instantly with the Scratch Bank pad mode. The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 also works perfectly with Serato DJ Pro. You can get a free trial version of Serato DJ Pro, which you can then use permanently afterward for an additional fee.
